Death means no longer alive. The end of needs and cravings. But it is not what happened here in forensic department.
Accident seperti fall from height dan MVA. Homicide seperti gunshot dan stabbing. Suicide such as fall from height.
To open up one after another corpse really takes a toll on you. From fresh warm body to cold frozen-stored one, we got to observe their organ being examined and placed back inside of them. You lost your pieces of humanity and growing increasingly cold little by little. I saw relatives cried begging for their loved ones not to be cut open because of such stigma. I was there when we deliver the autopsied corpse back to their family, and how upon seeing it, the relatives cried uncontrollably. On both scenes, my heart was not touched a bit. I’m faking my condolence face. I am craving for more. It doesn’t bother me the sadness of those who waited outside. I want scalpel and forceps. I want dissecting knife and saw. I am excited and euphoric. Addicted and craving for more and more. I grew less human, I saw the human on their worst condition. With their scalp flailing open, skull sawed and remove, chest ripped out, viscera pulled and removed, even the tongue will not survive us the scavenger. We were presented with body of mystery. We need to figure out how they died. In that process, their corpses are our oyster. After all, nobody will know how anatomically incorrect the stitched body. The beauty of curiosity turns ugly.
In our eyes, corpses are our undiscovered book. In order to learn from them, we need to open them and read every inch. Some of us turn shivery scared, uneasy and disturbed. I believe they will soon adapt to it. The pungent smell of blood and decomposing flesh and innard. The unique perfume of calcium dust sawed from the skull. The sound of ripped cartilage of the ribs. Art of deskinning and incising. I found my drugs. Place where I belong.
Nothing like the expression of “Hey! I cut that criminal open,” upon reading the news of robbery on newspaper.
