Back when I was in my belasan tahun, before the Bollywood fever attacked Malaysia not so long ago, my parent and I always find time to sit and enjoy some Hindi or Tamil movie on TV3 or TV2, for our quality pastime.
Hindustan movie was one of the entertainment back then during my parent's teenage years. There was an old dilapidated cinema in my mothers hometown owned by old Chinese man called Boo Kiah (I don't know the exact spelling) that showcased Hindustan movie, of heroes were the crush for every teenage girls (that equivalent to Korean actors nowadays). Entrance fee was 20 cents. It's no surprise that my mother can easily recognize old Hindustan actors and actresses and hum along old Hindi songs.
Just before 2 pm Saturday afternoon. My father will pick his favorite seat, my mum will goreng some keropok or bring out snacks especially ground nut. There you will hear some additional sound effect of munching or cracking ground nut shell while watching Hindustan movie. From the first 15 minutes play, my mum will be able to predicts the storyline she claimed 'stereotype'. She has a gift for that, for which my father will suggest his own theory. I always find this moment sweet because my mother will give my dad a back massage or korek his telinga and my dad give her foot or head massage in reciprocate.
Given a time my dad was not around or went for outstation. My mum will always find something to do while watching, she will sew, potong cili kering, roll tiny popiah with serunding, do her teaching report, or marking book etc. In between commercial, we will talk about anything.
Well that was some good time. I rarely find time to watch TV anymore, let alone Panggung Sabtu since I was badly addicted to internet. I missed those time that still practiced by my father and mother alone back home.
One of the remarkable movie that my mother failed to predict its storyline was Dil Hai Tumhaara. It was not lined by most prominent actors and actresses but the originality and emotional ride to it was mesmerizing. This is the purpose of my entry today. I still have a soft spot for this movie, particularly Preity Zinta, she did herself proud. Those Bollywood actresses back then were pure talents and nut a slutty and sexually suggestive as today. Its music sounds truly original and captivating real Hindustan spirit. I think that is the main reason I dislike watching any Bollywood movie now. Shah Rukh Khan is so overrated equivalent to Rosyam Noor for both are Hero Tua.
Dil Hai Tumhaara story is original, my respect to the script writer. Those who haven't watch this movie, read the plot HERE. Essence of this story was consummated by this song. A beautiful song. You can tell what the story is all about by just watching this clip.
Dil Laga Liya is directly translated as 'Gave My Heart To'
