I have this song randomly for quite sometimes back in the day when I was a download monster (which I still am now). But I couldn't bring myself repeatedly listen to most of the song I downloaded. But for sure my subconscious caught some of the essence of the song and save it deep in the cortex without me knowing it.
So the story is, I recently downloaded a new TV series from US called Being Human, an adaptation from UK version of same title. The song that appeared in a first scene suddenly knocked me silly, it sounded tad familiar but I couldn't recall. So what I did is, I search in Google (who used Yahoo! or Bing anymore?...duh), and it gave me Royal Wood. As long as I can remember I have got Shady Bard song called Treelogy. That is as close as I can muster about a song related to wood. But my brain insist that that song sounded freaking familiar. So I typed it to searchbox in Window Explorer and...sha...zam...there it is...Royal Wood - A Mirror Without.
It is amazing how your brain can actually captured something sub-consciously without you even knowing it. My brain can surprise me sometimes I felt it belong to someone else before.
Nevertheless, don't keep my not-so-interesting story keep you from enjoying this song. I just love the lyric. I think it's brilliant and poetic and somewhat enigmatic. You should listen to end of it, because there's where the punch line is. I purposely leave last line of the lyric below empty so you can figure it out yourself.
I keep on running from the buildings tall
The buildings tall surround
Like in a circus oh a circus tent
A circus tent I'm a clown
What good's a mirror without a face
Without a face
I keep on shelling out my memories
My memories like cash
Except they do not hold a currency
A currency that lasts
What good's a mirror without a face
Without a face
I'd like to lie back in the certainty
The certainty of you
But now I realize there is nothing
There is nothing absolute
What good's a mirror without a face
Without a face
When there are spirits to take our place
They'll take our place
I wish that I could build a time machine
A time machine and save
All this trouble for my present self
My present self and save
What good's a mirror without a face
Without a face
When there are spirits to take our place
They'll take our place
What good's a mirror without a face
Without a face
When there are spirits to take our place
...
