At first it sounded like a boring book intro-ed by a monologue of teenage angst, but then…bam, was I the one who tumbling down the stairs. Two words to explain this book. VERY GOOD
It’s a multi-monologue, certainly not the first time ever published but definitely my first. The story of Anna a 13 year-old girl who seek medical emancipation from being a constant tissue provider to her ailing older sister, in terms of blood and its lineage. She comes to stand her ground when she was asked to donate her kidney. Born genetically selected to become his sister savior from the moment she was brought into the world to the end (spoiler alert). Intertwined story of multiple characters with their personal monologue so we can delve into each head and root for understanding.
Each of them played important role to the story and for once the antagonist and protagonist conflict are cloudy to non-existence. Brian the father, Sara the mother, Kate’s the sick sister, Anna the main character, Jesse the troublesome brother, Campbell Alexander the epileptic lawyer and his beau Julia, the guardian ad litem…uh, and Judge the service dog.
This story was planned beautifully that by the end of the story, you will turned agape. With the sound of enlightenment of “Owh!” and at certain level “Oh My God!”. By the end of it, you can feel the painful sensation in your throat, a repressed need to cry out loud or sob for the sake of getting it out your system.
The theme was legal, medical, astrological, family and at one point even weaponry. A heartwarming story with (spoiler alert) tragic end. I struggle myself not to cry or at least making any sound of it at 4 in the morning. Worth losing sleep for.
Jodi Picoult is not Danielle Steele. This book is not an erotica and far from a chick flicks neither a thriller. This book tells a story of life. A potential for literature treasure. Good writing, good plot and story frame. Just the kind of book with John Grisham’s persona in it without much commercial buzz, that makes you pang for more of the author’s brainchild.
It already motion picture soon to be released in
RATING: five stars and a sun (for the exaggerating effect)
